Equipment

  • Cast iron skillet
  • Spatula
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Foil (optional)

Ingredients

  • 8 slices rustic bread
  • 3 tbsp butter softened
  • 8 slices deli turkey breast
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices bacon cooked crisp
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard

Instructions

  • Butter one side of each bread slice.
  • Spread Dijon on the other side of four slices. Layer turkey, Swiss cheese, bacon, and apple slices on top. Top with remaining bread, buttered side out.
  • Heat cast iron skillet over medium campfire heat. Place sandwiches in skillet and press with a spatula or another skillet.
  • Cook 4–5 minutes per side until bread is golden and cheese melts. Rotate for even toasting.
  • If needed, tent with foil to help cheese melt.
  • Slice panini and serve hot.

Notes

Cook bacon beforehand or on a campfire skillet before assembling sandwiches. Wrap pressed sandwiches in foil to keep them warm while others cook. Press with a second skillet or heavy lid for the best crunch.
