Equipment

  • Dutch oven
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Foil muffin liners

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup cold butter cubed
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  • In a bowl, toss apples with half the cinnamon and a sprinkle of brown sugar. Divide among 6 foil muffin liners.
  • In the same bowl, mix oats, flour, remaining brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, salt, and cubed butter. Use your fingers to pinch together until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle topping over each apple portion.
  • Arrange liners in a Dutch oven. Cover and bake over medium campfire coals, with some coals on the lid, for 18-20 minutes until apples are bubbly and topping is golden.
  • Cool a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Using foil muffin liners makes these easy to serve and keeps the Dutch oven clean. Apples and topping can be prepped ahead for quick camp assembly.
