Ginger-Lime Yerba Mate Cooler

Earthy, energizing yerba mate is steeped with fresh ginger and lime, then lightly sweetened and poured over ice for a botanical, bright, and rejuvenating camp drink. Excellent for hiking mornings or an afternoon energy lift.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons loose yerba mate or 3 mate tea bags
  • 1 inch fresh ginger sliced
  • 1 lime juiced, plus slices for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Instructions

  • Bring water to a boil in a camp kettle or small pot over a camp stove or fire.
  • Add yerba mate and ginger slices to the hot water. Cover and steep off-heat for 5 minutes.
  • Strain the tea into a pitcher or large bottle, discarding mate and ginger.
  • Stir in lime juice and maple syrup until dissolved. Cool briefly.
  • Fill camp mugs or bottles with ice and pour the mate cooler over the top.
  • Garnish with lime slices and serve chilled.

Notes

This recipe is perfect for camp mornings when you need a gentle caffeine boost. Use an insulated bottle to keep the drink cold for hours. Adjust sweetness and ginger intensity to your liking. Loose yerba mate is more traditional but tea bags work well for ease.
