Instructions
In your jug, gently bruise spruce or pine tips by crushing with your hands or a spoon to release aroma.
Add water, orange juice, and lemon juice to the jug.
Stir in honey or maple syrup and sea salt until dissolved.
Add the bruised spruce or pine tips to the mixture and let infuse for 10 minutes.
Strain out the spruce/pine tips if desired, or leave in for stronger flavor.
Add ice and stir. If at camp, submerge the jug in a cold stream or cooler to chill further.
Pour into cups, garnish with citrus wheels, and serve immediately.
Notes
Forage carefully—use only young, soft spruce or pine tips (never yew or old needles). This recipe maximizes cold creek chilling and fresh flavors for summer hikes. Works well with a variety of safe, wild conifer tips.
