Chewy, buttery blondies packed with walnuts and a hint of maple, baked over the campfire in a cast iron skillet. Easy to slice and share, these bars are a delicious northern woods treat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  • Grease the skillet. In a bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, and egg until smooth. Stir in maple syrup and vanilla.
  • Add flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until just combined.
  • Fold in walnuts. Spread batter in skillet.
  • Cover loosely with foil. Bake over medium campfire heat 18-20 minutes, rotating occasionally, until edges are set and center is golden.
  • Cool 5-10 minutes, slice, and serve.

Notes

Blondies bake fast over fire—watch so they don't overbrown. Let cool slightly to slice clean bars.
