Equipment

  • camp grill grate or portable grill
  • blender or large lidded jar
  • fine strainer
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • cooler with ice

Ingredients

  • 1 medium pineapple peeled, cored, and cut into rings
  • 2 limes juiced
  • 3 tablespoons honey or agave syrup for vegan
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 1 cup ice cubes plus more for serving
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt optional, for flavor balance

Instructions

  • Prepare a medium campfire and set a grill grate over hot coals.
  • Grill pineapple rings over direct heat for 3–4 minutes per side until caramelized and lightly charred. Remove and let cool briefly.
  • Roughly chop the grilled pineapple and add to a blender or large lidded jar.
  • Add lime juice, honey (or agave), sea salt (if using), water, and ice. Blend or shake vigorously until smooth and frothy.
  • Strain the mixture through a fine strainer into a large pitcher or camp mug to remove pulp.
  • Serve over fresh ice in camp cups. Garnish with a grilled pineapple wedge or lime wheel if desired.

Notes

Grilling pineapple over the fire adds a subtle smoky depth. This agua fresca is best made on warm days with access to some ice in a camp cooler. For even easier cleanup, use a lidded jar to shake the mixture if no blender is available.
