Trailhead Orange Cardamom Iced Tea

A fragrant, spiced iced tea brewed with robust black tea, fresh orange wheels, and crushed cardamom pods—crafted for sipping on warm afternoons at camp after a long trek.

Equipment

  • small pot or kettle
  • cooler or cold stream
  • mason jars or thermos

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water filtered
  • 3 bags black tea English breakfast or similar
  • 1 large orange washed, sliced
  • 4 pods cardamom lightly crushed
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup

Instructions

  • Bring 4 cups water to a boil over your camp stove or fire.
  • Remove from heat, add tea bags, orange slices, and cardamom pods.
  • Steep for 6 minutes, then remove tea bags. Stir in honey until dissolved.
  • Let cool, then strain out solids if desired.
  • Pour into jars or a thermos, chill in a cooler or creek until icy cold.
  • Serve over ice or straight from the jar.

Notes

Steep your tea at camp and stash it in a cold creek or cooler for the ultimate chilled effect. Cardamom pods can be pre-crushed and packed in a small tin.
