Keep dessert on the fire. Fire-Grilled Cinnamon-Sugar Plums come off the grate warm and glossy, with fruit that yields to a spoon and cut sides that turn jammy and lacquered from the heat.
On a camp grill, the plums pick up a light smokiness that plays nicely with their natural tartness. Cinnamon and sugar melt into a thin crust that crackles at the edges, then settles into caramel as the juices bubble. That sweet-spice smell tends to drift through camp right about the time everyone starts wandering over “to help.”
It’s a low-fuss, easy-cleanup finish for summer camping: no mixing bowl, no long bake, and you’re using coals that are already going from dinner. Serve them straight from the grate, add a squeeze of lemon to brighten things up, or top with yogurt or vanilla ice cream if the cooler made the trip.
