Serves: any
Prep Time: 1-30m
Difficulty: average
Backpacking: No

Ingredients

  • Ham steak (cut in pieces)
  • potatoes (slices)
  • carrots
  • onion (slices)
  • cabbage (chopped)
  • butter
  • salt
  • pepper
  • dash thyme
  • a few drops of water

Instructions

Layer ingredients in a foil bag or doubled heavy duty foil. I figure 1 ham steak for 2 people and 1 large potato per person and 1 small onion per person. I use about 1/2 stick of butter per ouch…don't fill it too full or the inside won't cook as fast as the stuff on the outside.

Seal the bag well and place next to hot coals, turning a few times (CAREFULLY) until it's done. Bag should be puffy if sealed properly. Cook about an hour. For added protection you could put the whole bag inside a dutch oven…just make sure it's large enough to allow for expansion.
