About CampRecipes
Hi, I’m Stu, the person behind CampRecipes.com.
I’ve spent much of my life enjoying the outdoors. Camping, hiking, backpacking, cycling, and travel have been lifelong interests. Along the way I’ve learned that good food has a way of bringing people together and making outdoor adventures even more memorable.
CampRecipes was created to help campers find practical recipes, cooking ideas, and outdoor food inspiration. Whether you’re spending a weekend at a campground, heading into the backcountry, or planning meals for a longer adventure, my hope is that you’ll find something useful here.
One of the things that makes CampRecipes unique is its collection of archive recipes.
The original CampRecipes website brought together recipe contributions from outdoor enthusiasts around the world. Those recipes were shared over many years by campers, backpackers, hikers, scouts, and others who enjoyed cooking outdoors.
When the original site disappeared, much of that collection was at risk of being lost. CampRecipes preserves those contributed recipes and make them available again. Many represent family traditions, favorite camp meals, and recipes that were passed from one outdoor enthusiast to another over the years.
Alongside the archive collection, you’ll find modern recipes, outdoor cooking guides, meal planning ideas, and other resources designed to help people enjoy cooking outdoors.
I’ve been fortunate to spend many years exploring wild places both close to home and in other parts of the world. Along the way I’ve had opportunities to serve as a hike leader, work as an outdoor adventure guide, and share experiences with people from many different backgrounds and cultures.
Those experiences have taken me throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Central America. More importantly, they gave me a deeper appreciation for the outdoors and for the people who enjoy it.
The lessons I’ve learned from those experiences influence how I look at outdoor cooking. The best camping meals are rarely the most complicated ones. More often they’re the meals shared with friends after a long day on the trail, around a campfire with family, or during an adventure you’ll remember long after the trip is over.
When reviewing recipes and outdoor cooking information, I try to look at them from a camper’s perspective. Are the ingredients reasonably available? Can the recipe be prepared with equipment most people already have? Is it practical for outdoor use? Is it something that would be enjoyable to make at camp?
Those simple questions help guide what appears on CampRecipes.
My goal is straightforward. I want CampRecipes to be a useful resource for today’s outdoor enthusiasts while helping preserve a collection of recipes that might otherwise have been lost.
Whether you’re looking for a Dutch oven dinner, a backpacking meal, a campfire dessert, or a recipe contributed by a fellow camper years ago, I hope you’ll find something here that adds to your own outdoor experiences.
Camping never tasted so good,
Stu
