Campfire Smoky BBQ Jackfruit Sandwiches

4

When the fire settles into a steady bed of coals and everyone’s hungry from a day on the trail, Campfire Smoky BBQ Jackfruit Sandwiches hit that sweet spot between comfort food and campsite practicality. A cast-iron skillet or small pot set over the campfire does the heavy lifting, turning young green jackfruit into a surprisingly pulled, shred-and-sauce kind of bite. As it simmers, the BBQ sauce thickens and clings, and that smoky aroma drifts through camp like a dinner bell.

The beauty of cooking jackfruit over open heat is how forgiving it is: a gentle simmer, a few stirs, and you can dial in the texture from saucy to sticky depending on how long you let it reduce. Toast the buns right on the skillet edge or on a grate until they’re crisp and warm, then pile on the smoky BBQ jackfruit so it soaks in just enough without turning soggy.

For camping and overlanding, this is a low-fuss dinner with easy cleanup—one pan, a spoon, and a quick wipe-out while the coals fade. Bring a crunchy topping like slaw if you’ve got a cooler, or keep it simple with onions and pickles; either way, it eats like a classic BBQ sandwich, minus the meat, and no one misses it.
